the face of time, car clock design, 2026
inspired by the front design of the rolls-royce phantom(2005), this project creates a car clock by reinterpreting the structural characteristics of the automobile. the pantheon grille, an iconic element of rolls-royce identity, was selected as the key source of inspiration, focusing on its vertical repetition, central axis, and architectural presence created by its strong frontal identity. the angular and simplified form of the early phantom model creates an iconic automotive face, which is reinterpreted into the language of clock design. the repetitive vertical structure of the grille is translated into the rhythm and movement of clock mechanisms, while its central axis and frontal composition are reconfigured into an analog car clock with visible mechanical structures. through this process, the face of the automobile is reinterpreted as a new mechanical structure that represents time.
