ECAL MAS Diploma
lines of support, carry object, textile design, 2026

this project is inspired by the ropes, nets, and container structures found in ports and coastal environments. ropes and nets are used to connect, support, and secure objects, while containers are designed to hold, protect, and transport goods. through this project, i explore how functional systems of connection can be transformed into a sculptural language. using rope and stitching as the main tools, i investigate how lines and connections on flat surfaces can develop into three-dimensional forms and volumes. stitching is not used as a decorative element, but as a structural method that joins ropes together and supports the form. through repetition, stitching becomes both a construction technique and a visual language, allowing the methods of connection themselves to evolve into a structural textile.
